Echo & The Bunnymen
What Are You Going To Do With Your Life?

While their last album Evergreen marked a not totally convincing return of the BUNNYMEN, What are You Going To Do With Your Life? emerges as the true comeback of the group whose compositions are better than ever.

Forgetting easy choruses, this new album proposes a series of fine melodies and elaborate writing, flirting with the compositions of Leonard Cohen or the BEATLES, all while preserving the original sound of the group. The melodies and the voice of McCullogh are more valuable as the arrangements are bare, thus creating a sensation of purity and musical lightness.

From "What Are You Gonna Do With Your Life?" to "Rust", "Get In The Car", and "Baby Rain" the harmonies flow with grace. The acoustic sounds and violins carry the pieces without rendering them cheesy. ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN even dares, a rarity, to do the ultimate strip with "History Chimes" where the voice of Ian McCullogh agrees perfectly with the solo piano. Finally the classic ECHO songs are present with the unstoppable "Lost On You", fairly close to the album The Game, and "Fools Like Us" which has accents of Ocean Rain. The fact that the album has only 9 tracks further reinforces the sentiment that each piece was carefully chosen, contrary to the unequal abondance of the 12 tracks of Evergreen.

What are You Going To Do With Your Life? proves that after many long years the group has succeeded in guarding the freshness and musical quality that made their success in the 80’s.
