Even though the movie was totally kitsch, the soundtrack to Cool World is the perfect transition between electro-pop, industrial musica, and techno. As a soundtrack to the history of electronic music, Cool World gathers together no less than DAVID BOWIE, MOBY, THOMPSON TWINS, ELECTRONIC, MINISTRY, THE CULT, MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT & BRIAN ENO among others.
"Real Cool World", a DAVID BOWIE techno-pop song gets the album moving, followed by the masters of synthesizer kitsch, the THOMPSON TWINS, and ELECTRONIC, the marriage between NEW ORDER & the PET SHOP BOYS. One also notes the presence of BRIAN ENO, one of the precursors to the electronic era. Moving on to the industrial phase with the full force presence of the Wax Trax label and its proteges MINISTRY & MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT (who deliver 2 pieces here, one is their famous "Sex On Wheelz" from their explosive album Sexplosion) while THE CULT gives their industrial song "The Witch". In the same genre are DA JUICE, PURE & TOM BAILEY who close that era. Finally, techno is found with MOBY (two of his pieces here) as well as the THE FUTURE SOUND OF LONDON and MINDLESS.
In short, it’s all good.
Besides being excellent, it’s the perfect soundtrack that recapitulates the mutation of electronic music in these last years and/or serves to initiate those born with their feet planted in techno.
