FRONTSIDE, an Australian Dj and producer duo, is one of Wax Trax's most efficient techno acts. Never too easy, never too experimental, their music always finds a way to drive you with haunting melodies emerging from the electronic wall of sound.
Between pure Techno and Ambiant FRONTSIDE always succeeds in creating ambigous and dark atmospheres where the harshness of the electronic sounds and rhythms is softened by melancholic melodies and voices. If one can't help notice the influence of ORBITAL, early DAFT PUNK and Industrial music (duh, they're on Wax Trax!), their ability to manipulate melodies and adrenaline fuelled loops testifies to a real talent.
While "LBP" is a potential techno hit with its epileptic rhythmic, tracks like "Mind Distortion", "Kate Moss is not too Thin", "Down In My Mind" "Dämmerung" and "Evol" are a real treat at raising the pressure while a haunting melody or a mysterious voice slowly bewitches your mind. First they set the tempo with harsh rhythms and sounds. Then the melody or the voice enters and loops to hypnotize you. Finally they raise the speed to increase your pulse. That's when you realize they've got you big time and you wish you were in a rave to live it up 100%. These tracks represent the force of Frontside and are best at showing where the duo excels. They are their trademark while their other more experimental tracks are more classic techno variations.
Frontside is one of these uneasy albums you won't fall for at first ear, but once you're sucked in it, you won't be able to go without it.
