Step And Repeat Glossary

Since we've been getting questions about some terms related to step and repeat, we though we would create a glossary to help clarify a few things. You will find below the most common terms:

. Step and repeat: In graphic design, it refers to copying and pasting a design several times, thus creating a repetitive pattern. When associated with red carpets, it means that the guests walk a few steps, pause for photographers, walk and pause again.

. Step and repeat backdrop: This is a custom backdrop primarily used for photography, whether it's people or products. Also known as photo backdrop, it mostly refers to smaller square sizes backdrops - for example from 8x9 to 8x12 - but can be longer as well, including those used for red carpet arrivals.

. Step and repeat banner: People use that term to refer to longer, rectangular backdrops which are usually standing along a red carpet.

. Step and repeat wall: Similar to step and repeat banner, it means it is a pretty long backdrop - for example 8x60 to 8x112.

. Step and repeat illustrator: this is the design practice used with Illustrator, which is a design software made by Adobe.

. Step and repeat indesign: this once again a design trick used this time with Indesign, another software made by Adobe.

. Step and repeat moca: This is a yearly summer exhibit organized by MOCA, Los Angeles' Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, which features art, comedy, poetry and live music + food trucks. The name was also based on the design term.
