While he doesn't have the stature of the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Junkie XL has produced some honest cuts and remixes in the past even though he never really knew how to fully exploit the potential of some of his guests — listen to "Reload" (featuring Dave Grahan) to see what I mean.

By looking at the cover of Today, we understand that Junkie XL followed the well-known road of going to find peace and inspiration in the desert (actually if you're looking for some good laughs, check out the picture where he's lying on the coach).

In the vein of his earlier works, opener "Youthful" is an average track that can do its job on the dance floor but without any excitement. Following the bland "Mushroom", the album offers a couple good moments such as "Today" and "Drift Away" but the rest of the time his attempts at catching the "sound of the moment", from Snow Patrol's guitars to Radiohead's pianos strip this CD of any personality and make it a failure.
