Electronic music and all its forms parade around on La Leche, a compilation of Sonic360's best and brightest from around the globe: Mexico (Monterrey and Tijuana), Berlin, Tokyo, Buenos Aires and the U.K. The result is a veritable International, a lineup of electronicistas laced with Norteño, funk, Japanese musings and most importantly, creating infectious dance music.
Approach this CD as you would a party. Head to the bar! Starting off with a good strong cocktail, Ras's "Soul Buzz" is smooth until the beats and liquor kick in. The rhythm and dub alternate with spacey interludes, setting the mood. Index's "Rhodes 66" is much more drum and beat heavy, percolating with peppy church organ flourishes. Lovers of Kinky and Nortec Collective will be pleased with a conjugal rhythm visit made by Bostich on "Soun Tha Primer Amor". He adds a dash of his trademark Norteño on their funky Monterrey sound, spicing it up without sacrificing any kinkiness. On "Seesaw", Pea Green Boat makes an offering of ethereal trance attacked by an army of kinetic locusts humming a few lines from Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance". "Hitorija" by Pyokn of Tokyo has that air of whimsical samba and is somewhat reminiscent (at least on this track) of Si Sé as well as the New Latinaires (for Japanese Bossa Nova/Electronica, check out Izuru Utsimi's track, "Zum Zum"). Rounding out this short collection is Fussible's "Odyssea", very low key and awfully mellow, the one-more-drink-then-we'll-go song.
There are no filler tracks or dorky cousins on this CD; instead La Leche accomplishes what a good compilation should: pique interest in the artists represented.
