A staple of the LA underground hip-hop scene, Lexicon reinvents itself with The Rapstars, an EP with a strong rock sensibility, where real instruments take over samples. After releasing two albums and realizing all the hip-hop bases had been covered ad nauseam, they found renewed creativity by mixing genres.

Of course, you could certainly argue that they're surely not innovators, as this road has been taken many times, from local heroes Rage Against The Machine & Cypress Hill, to the Beastie Boys (and they sound like them at times)—but what matters here is that not only do their songs work but they are pretty infectious, making this E.P a successful artistic turn for the duo.

The Rapstars is a digital EP, which is available on Itunes.
