As the title indicates, First Album is the first solo effort from Miss Kittin, an icon of the European electro scene who has lent her voice to such acts as Felix da Housecat. Backed by the Hacker, who brings his dark rhythms and disturbing melodies, she recites a series of obscene and shocking litanies that the Lords of Acid would envy. The French and English lyrics alternate between anguish and vice.
Her robot-like voice and cynicism successfully merge with the voluntarily primitive electro sonorities that point out Depeche Mode's first hours. The duo spices everything up with house and techno. While the sound is not that far from Felix da Housecat and Ladytron, a certain penchant for a dangerous cocktail of dark-electro and sex dissociates Miss Kittin & The Hacker from the fun and catchy tunes of these two bands.
As "Walking in the Sunshine" implies, Miss Kittin does not share the same happiness as the rest of the population; a denunciation of mainstream culture is confirmed with the excellent "Life On MTV" featuring a monotonous voice and threatening melody. "Frank Sinatra" is the famous pornographic and ironic anthem that made her reputation. "Stock Exchange" and "You and Us" are electro gems among others while with "Stripper" she asserts her status as a distant cousin of the Lords of Acid, by getting on the same scene.
A Kittin who undoubtedly charms a great number of aristocats from the synthesizer generation.
