Looking at the title and the inside of the CD cover, this lounge compilation definitely sounded appealing. While I don't often listen to bar-lounge-chill-out-or-whatever-you-want-to-call-it music, I'm certainly not unfamiliar with the sub-genre, since my buddy from Wagram Paris has been feeding me their best-selling Buddha bar/Hotel Costes & co electro-jazz collections.

Even though I hadn't heard of the original Sounds Like Sex—the CD not the actual sound it refers to—, which must have been successful enough to generate a sequel, I was pleasantly surprised listening to that collection of songs, which all work well at creating an enveloping ambiance.

The success of this album is partly due to the presence of good female vocalists—including Angela McCluskey of Telepopmusik's fame—, which make these songs not only stand out but also memorable, thus transcending this collection of tracks way beyond its natural status as background music. Who knows, next time I bring a girl back to my beach pad, I might even give Sounds Like Sex 2 a spin, as an interlude between the two usual Nouvelle Vague CDs.
