Manson Family Movies review

:. Director: John Aes-Nihil
:. Starring: Charles Manson
Running Time: 1:28
Country: USA
Year: 2005

While the fascination with Charles Manson has never faded, there has been a recent resurgence of works directly or indirectly related to Manson, whether in music — NIN recording in the Sharon Tate mansion, Marylin Manson's name and Charles Manson's own songs being played here and there, in films, a few TV and video movies on the subject, or in books.

This latest incarnation, Mason Family Movies, aims at recreating home movies of Manson and his followers, from their everyday lives to orgies and killings. With only music as a soundtrack — including real Manson family music — and looking faded and granulated, this reconstitution pretends to be the real thing, to give you an exclusive and voyeuristic look at what really happened.

Shot amateur-style, using an effect present on any basic video editing software and strongly lacking content, this "fake" reenacted work doesn't have anything say, which places it in the category of these staged reality shows.

Catering to the kind of obsessions I will never understand, this film will only appeal to fans of Manson and serial killers as well as trench coat teenagers. Too creepy to be honest.
